What makes ‘Among us’ better?

‘Among us’ can do better than what it is doing to make players engaged more! — Part 1

With its current success, Among us is doing good when it comes to player engagement. But, Innersloth can do more with “Among us” so that they can make ‘Among us’ much larger than what it is doing today.

I identify following aspects as scope of areas of improvement:

Game Economy

While the game economy as a subject that is widely referred to as an aspect of game monetization (in terms of business of game), economy design is incredibly important to design the best experience.

Among us game design is comparable with Poker in many aspects as explained in this story.

Bankroll management is key in poker which makes Poker game very interesting and constrained in a good way. In fact, in the professional Poker player community, players who knows how to manage their bankroll are the ones with great success ratio with their games.

Among us can be made more engaging and interesting if a virtual currency can be added to the game and players can use them to play the game and earn them.

This way, when playing games, players get a bit more serious in the game. This is also resonant with the players comments on Google play app.

Screen capture of the Google play store feedback from players. Notice how many players resonated with this emotion.

How in game currency can be used for “Among us”?

Game based economy

In this case, allow the game start based on a certain amount of currency. And, winning side will equally split the total coins accumulated. See below the table which explains this idea.

Currency to start the game is the ‘cost to player’ to play a game.
Game fee is the aspect of sink needed to maintain the economy. (More about this will be discussed in later articles)

What happens because this change?

  • Current game difficulty will not be effected as one currency being added to merely increase the transactional value of the game
Level of DIFFICULTY depicted when you are playing 1. 2 or 3 Impostor games
  • The current difficulty depicted above will resonate with the rewards or Payoff structure shown in the economy table. Higher the difficulty for a player, higher the payoff. (Check for both crew-mates and Impostors)
Level of PRIZE depicted when you are playing 1. 2 or 3 Impostor games

Why this will make game more engaging?

  • With more stakes involved, the players will be putting some thought on what variant they would want to join.
  • After they join, they would want to own the amount and they won’t leave the game just like what they do now.
  • Their voting strategy will be now more rationalized.

Please let me know your views on this idea in the comments.
